In electrolytic cells, where the electrolyte is pumped through the cell causing a pressure differential with respect to atmospheric pressure, and the electrodes are totally immersed in the electrolyte, any material discontinuity in the immersed portion of an electrode forms a point where corrosion may be initiated. Such a condition occurs where the connection to the anode is made within the cell. To avoid such a discontinuity an electrode is provided where the contact is formed from the same body of material as, and continuous with, the electrode, the contact extending through a wall of the cell so as to present no material discontinuity within the electrolyte. In a preferred form the electrode is a sheet formed into a hollow cylinder and having a radially extending tongue to form the contact. The cylinder is resiliently radially compressible for insertion into the cell. |
