In a method of regulating the feed into a recovery furnace of combustible liquors of varying chemical compsn. and physical properties which are produced during the prepn. of wood pulp by chemical digestion, the viscosity of the liquor is measured immediately before its injection into the furnace, and is used to adjust the feed parameters which control the droplet size of the injected liquor. The size of the jet orifice, or the viscosity of the liquor, or both, are adjusted in relation to the measured viscosity. The liquor viscosity is regulated by heating or cooling the liquor, or by mixing with it a liquor of different viscosity, or by a combination of both methods. The solids content of the liquor is determined more conveniently, and more accurately by measurement of the viscosity than by earlier methods of measuring the density, either directly or by use of a refractometer, and viscosity is more directly related to the droplet size of the liquor, giving much better control of this parameter. |
