1332650 Polyamides GENERAL MILLS Inc 9 Nov 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 53224/70 Heading C3R Polyamides are derived from (A) a polymeric fat acid, (B) a monocarboxylic acid, (C) an alkylene diamine and (D) a polyhexamethylene diamine with 2 to 4 hexamethylene groups. Another dicarboxylic acid (E) may also be used. Specified reactants include various C 2-8 alkylene diamines as (C), C 1-9 alkanoic acids as (B) and phthalic and hexahydrophthalic acids as (E). The polymers are stated to have good solubility in ethanol and propanol, fast solvent release and high resistance to gellation and ice water rendering them particularly suitable for flexographic inks. Such inks may comprise 20 to 30 wt. per cent polyamide, 30 to 50 wt. per cent solvent e.g. ethanol, propanol or methyl butynol or mixtures thereof with water, isopropyl acetate, hexane or naphtha, and 30 to 40 wt. per cent pigments e.g. TiO 2 , carbon black, iron oxide, chrome orange or yellow, phthalocyanine blue or green, molybdate orange or toluidine red, optionally with 3 to 7% modifiers e.g. ester gums, maleic or phenolic resins, waxes or nitrocellulose.
