1317292 Sintering machines METALLGESELLSCHAFT A G 10 Aug 1970 [23 Aug 1969] 38526/70 Heading F4B In a sintering or pelletizing machine, ingress of air into the most downstream windbox 6 through the gap, extending transversely of the travelling grate, between the windbox and the underside of the moving pallets of the travelling grate, is prevented by a sealing arrangement comprising a sealing plate 8 resiliently forced against the supporting cross beams 7 of the pallets by a pair of transversely disposed loaded levers 9 (only one of which is shown), and sealed joint means which prevent air infiltration past the levers 9, between the windbox top edge and the bottom of plate 8. Similar levers 9b and sealed joint means may be provided between the top edge of a suction box 12 downstream of windbox 6, which helps stop air leakage into the windbox 6, by drawing off any infiltrated air, and the other end of the sealing plate 8, or a subsequent sealing plate (8a Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), downstream of the first. Gaps between the sealing plates, or elonggated openings 17 in a single sealing plate allow some air to be drawn through sinter bed 5 into the suction box 12. The levers 9, 9b may be weighted, or hydraulically or spring loaded. As shown, the sealed joint means comprises transversely extending hinges 11, 16 and 18 about which levers 9, 9b pivot, and sheet metal elements 21 extending between the hinges. Alternatively (Fig. 4, not shown) only one transverse hinge may be provided to which the levers and the sealing plate are directly secured, the hinge and its mounting then forming the sealed joint means. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the sealed joint means is formed from transversely extending drop bars (23) carried by the sealing plate, which press the levers against a transversely extending hinge about which they pivot. The sealing plates which have curved edges may be formed from parallel longitudinal sections, each section being resiliently forced against the pallet cross beams by loaded levers, adjacent sections being interconnected through sealing bellows. |
