The invention relates to a process for inhibiting and retarding the gelling and setting of mixer solutions that are composed of sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and sodium silicate in an aqueous medium, and which are required to be miscible and pumpable. This can often be done by adding to the said medium a citric acid material such as citric acid itself and/or a water-soluble citrate, together with magnesium sulphate.
