PURPOSE:To obtain an air cell, which shows excellent characteristics in a long- period preservation and a long-period discharge at a minute current, at a low cost by preparing an air electrode from mixture consisting of carbon powder and a metal phthalocyanine compound which has a radical with either a hydroxide group or both a hydroxide group and a carboxyl group. CONSTITUTION:An air electrode 3 for an air cell is made in the following manner. At first, carbon powder with a surface area of around 100m<2>/g measured by the gas adsorption method is sufficiently immersed in a solution, which is prepared by dissolving a metal phthalocyanine having a radical with either a hydrophilic hydroxide group or both a hydroxide group and a carboxyl group in water. Next, the carbon powder dispersion is filtered so as to remove water, and the wet carbon powder is dried under a reduced pressure so as to evaporate water. Then, the mixture consisting of carbon powder and cobalt phthalocyanine having a radical with a hydroxide group, is subjected to heat treatment in an electric furnace. After that, the mixture is treated with an emulsion of Teflon which is a water-repellent binder, and supported between stainless nets from its both sides, thereby making the air electrode 3. |
