PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a Cu or Cu alloy mold by providing an Ni plating layer on the surface of the body of said mold in contact with molten steel and further providing a soft crackless Cr plating layer having hardness smaller than specific values thereon. CONSTITUTION:An Ni plating layer is provided by using an Ni sulfamate plating soln. on the surface of the body of a Cu or Cu alloy mold in contact with molten steel. Further, a soft crackless Cr plating layer of <=400Hv is provided on said Ni plating layer to about 50mu thickness. Then the generation of thermal cracking in the Cr plating layer and the dislodging of said layer are reduced and the life of the mold is prolonged. |
