The rotating drum (1) is part of a drying kiln or a furnace and runs on rollers. The drum is driven through a geared ring (7). The connection between the drum and driving ring is achieved using leg springs (3). The drum has a series of circumferentially equi-spaced brackets (2) and the gear ring has similarly positioned connecting plates (12). Each spring has a swivel connection with one bracket (2) using a pin (5). The other end exerts pressure on a flat plate (6) of the adjacent bracket in a sliding manner. The centre of the spring is attached to the gear ring and the spring is tensioned using the adjusting bolts (11). This drive accommodates for the differential movement due to thermal expansion in the furnace.
