PURPOSE:To positively remove air bubbles mixed in a head by causing air bubbles to dissolve in ink liquid by cooling the head when air bubbles are detected in the ink jet head. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet recorder is formed by providing an ink jet drive circuit combined with an air bubble detection circuit 9 which detects the mixing of air bubbles in an ink chamber 4 by sensing abnormal high frequency vibration of the electrostrictive vibrator 3 of an ink jet head 1, and a cooling element 10 (for example; Peltier effect element) and a cooling element drive circuit 11. When air bubbles 6 are detected in the ink chamber 4, the cooling element 10 is operated and the solubility of air into ink is increased by cooling the head 1 and air bubbles 6 are caused to dissolve into ink, and ink jetting is continued to discharge ink dissolving air bubbles from a nozzle 2 and simultaneously, the ink chamber is filled with new ink.
