The floating journal bearing has a thin bearing shell with a film of oil on both sides. The connecting rod (1) rotates about the crankshaft (3) with the shell (5,6) interposed between them with oil films (2) either side. The shell formed from two half cylinders interlocked along their straight edges with a dovetail joint (7-11). The two half shells spring together due to their inherent elasticity. Before rolling, each flat half shell is formed into a trapezium so that when assembled, a wedge form is produced which ensures automatic, hydraulic, axial centring of the shell in the bearing. |
