The appts. uses a linear electric motor which responds to a set input signal representing the required ventilator flow and has a feedback position controller to precisely locate the ventilation flow regulator. The controller is installed in the system of ventilation ducts. A cuboid enclosure has the ducts entering at the side, and has the regulator vane installed in one wall of the cuboid. The linear motor is part attached to the vane and has the other part attached to a pivot mounted on the cuboid. A rotary potentiometer is attached to the axis of the vane, and gives position feedback to the controller which adjusts the drive to the linear motor to provide accurate positioning.
