The invention relates to a device for measuring circumference, in particular change in circumference. In order to be able to determine the service life of pipelines during inspection work, a measuring tape (tape measure, tape rule) (3) is prestressed in a defined fashion over a rugged straight-line mechanism (4). A precise reading of the change in circumference of a pipe is achieved by means of a line rule (5) and a vernier on the straight-line mechanism (4). Figure 1 shows a side view of the straight-line mechanism (4) with the ends (1, 2) of the measuring tape (3). <IMAGE>
