In a nuclear reactor graphite 'moderator block 1, the central axial channel 2 forms a passage for the carbon dioxide gas coolant. Blocks may be keyed together by keyways 3. Gas flows through the ducts 4, to enable the corrosion inhibiting constituent in the gas to reach the block inner regions. Access to the duets 4 may be provided by transverse ducts intersecting the longitudinal ones. Connecting channels may be provided by grooves in the block end faces. The corrosion inhibitor may be methane. |
