2-(4-Aminobutoxy) stilbenes having the formula (I):

wherein R<1> is (1)-

wherein R<2> and R<3> are each hydrogen or C1-C3 alkyl, (2) -N N-R<4> wherein R<4> is C1-C3 alkyl which may be substituted with hydroxy, or (3) hydroxypiperidino; and

benzene rings, at least one of which contains one or more substituents selected from halogen, C1-C3 alkyl, C1-C3 alkoxy,

wherein R<5> and R<6> are each C1-C3 alkyl, nitro and

R<7>O@- wherein R@ is C1-C3 alkyl, and an acid addition salt thereof, are prepared and found useful as pharmaceutical agents, particularly as anti-convulsants and skeletal muscle relaxants.
