A press-fitted pen tip for a tubular writing instrument, e.g. a draughtsman's pen for use on rough surfaces, has a waisted shape to permit easy adjustment of alignment with the pen axis. The tip (2) is press-fitted into an open-ended tube (1) at the front end of a pen has an internal passage alignable with a passage in the pen body leading to an ink reservoir. Its outer surface is smoothly narrowed towards the middle (4) of the tip, e.g., tip length is 3 mm, inner dia. 0.3 mm, and outer dia. 0.6 mm, with the outer dia. of the middle (4) reduced by 0.05 mm. The rear end of the tip, i.e., the end which enters the tube (1), is rounded with a radius of e.g. 0.2 mm. The tip is formed e.g. by extrusion, followed by mechanical grinding.
