PURPOSE:When sodium sulfide is oxidized with molecular oxygen, anthracite is used as a catalyst to promote high efficiency of oxidation at low costs. CONSTITUTION:In the oxidation of sodium sulfide in an aqueous solution with molecular oxygen or a gas containing the same, anthracite which has been known as smokeless coal and used as a filter in general is used as a catalyst. This catalyst occurs in nature and is not only inexpensive but also almost same in catalytic activity compared with activated carbon. Further, anthracite is insoluble in alkali and so it causes no contamination with an organic substance such as quinone or phenolic substance and no troubles such as foaming as well.
|
