PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition having remarkably improved plaque formation suppressing action and reduced bitter taste, free from the discoloration of the teeth, suitable for the prevention of dental caries and periodontosis, and containing chlorhexidine or its salt and a buffer solution having a specific pH. CONSTITUTION:The titled composition contains 0.0005-1wt% (preferably 0.001- 0.1wt%) chlorhexidine or its salt, and a buffer solution having pH of 7-9 or a compound constituting said buffer solution. The buffer solution is e.g. an aqueous solution of boric acid and sodium borate, an aqueous solution of monosodium phosphate and dipotassium phosphate, an aqueous solution of trishydroxyaminomethane and hydrochloric acid, etc. The concentration of the buffer solution at the application to the oral cavity is adjusted to 0.01-1M. Since the activity of chlorhexidine can be increased by combining with the above buffer solution, a sufficiently high effect can be attained even at a low concentration. |
