The optical recording disc which forms holes when exposed to the modulated high energy photon is improved to raise the recording sensitivity, to provide very small holes (data bits), and to form the hole of various diameters. The surface of the substrate(14) adjacent to the recording layer(18) has a surface of discontinuity at the hole, or a coating layer(17) with a surface of discontinuity is established.
