A dichloroalkane of a purity suitable to be pyrolysed to the corresponding monochloroalkene is prepared by additively chlorinating the corresponding olefine with chlorine in the liquid phase maintained at a temperature whereby dichloroalkane formed distils off, and passing the dichloroalkane vapour obtained to a distillation column which is also fed with crude dichloroalkane obtained from at least one other source, whereby the heat from the dichloralkane vapour causes at least a portion of the crude dichloroalkane to be distilled off to obtain purified dichloroalkane. |
