PURPOSE:To obtain a display element good in sealing characteristics and high in durability against repeated use, by coating a silicon compd. on the surface of an electrode and the part of a base plate to be coated with a sealing agent in advance and sealing them after heat treatment for forming a stable thin film. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 1 is formed on a base plate 2 in a circular pattern by an etching method, and then, a silicon compd. dissolved in alcohol or water at room temp. is coated on the part of the plate 2 to be sealed and the part of the electrode 1 not to be displayed to form a stable thin film of the silicon compd. (SiO2) after heat treatment. Sealing is carried out e.g. with an epoxy resin or a low melting glass as a sealing agent, thus permitting sealing performance and yield of element manufacture, etc. to be enhanced, and besides masking of electrode to be executed simultaneously by the good characteristics as a masking agent of a display electrode possessed by the silicon compd. |
