PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of the dark current, by dividing one picture element of a solid-state image pickup element into plural regions and providing a transfer register in every region and transferring the electric charge in every region independently and making the optical signal in every region binary to circulate it in the image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:Each of picture elements (11)-(44) of a solid-state image pickup element is divided into 4 regions A-D. Respective light receiving parts of picture elements constitute longitudinal shift registers 11a-11d,-44a-44d. Lateral shift registers 4 and 7 for output and a lateral shift register 8 for input are provided for respective picture element rows. The electric charge in every region is transferred independently and is outputted to the output register 4 or 7. The output of the register 7 for output is made binary and is transferred to the register 8 for input. At the time point when contents of the register 8 are transferred to the lowermost picture element line (41)-(44), the output of the register 4 is connected to the register 8 and is circulated in the image pickup element. Thus, the breakdown of the picture signal due to the dark current is prevented to store the signal for a long time. |
