Binder for refractory materials, which said binder is liquid at room temperature and comprises a mixture of components A and B with a catalyst, characterised in that the component A is a component which can be catalytically hardened over a temperature range of 10 to 250 degrees C and comprises partly polymerised furfural resin based on self-condensing furfural alcohol and having a maximum monomer content of 50% by weight and a maximum viscosity of 500 mPa.s and component B is a tar, which becomes solid at a temperature which is at least 200 degrees C above the temperature required for hardening of the component A, the tar having a softening point lower 99% by weight of components A and B, and the component B comprising between 40 and 90% by weight of this mixture of the components A and B and between 1 and 8% of the catalyst, referred to the total mixture. |
