There are metal cooling plates e.g. Cu surrounding the extrusion. There are also plates above these which are surrounded by one or more electromagnet stirrer coils. - The extrusion (1) passes through the non-electrically conducting plates (5) e.g. ceramic which are surrounded by the electromagnetic stirrer coils (8) and then through the chill mould, surrounded by metal plates (2). These are water cooled. The ceramic plates can be reinforced with non-magnetic stainless steel plates (7). |
