QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE MEASUREMENT OF SUGAR

PURPOSE:To enable a precise measurement of sample containing sugars with a handy operation by reacting a probe contg. sugars with 2-cyanoacetamide and determining the ultraviolet absorption of the substance generated by the reaction. CONSTITUTION:A sample containing sugars is pretreated appropriately to make a water solution or a solution of an org. solvent contg. water of the sugars therein. This solution is mixed with an aq. soln. of 2-cyanoacetoamide and a boric acid buffer liquid having an appropriate pH value. After the mixture is heated, the absorbancy of the ultraviolet rays at 276nm of the generated material is measured for determination.
