PURPOSE:To cause a good swirl in the combustion chamber of an engine having at least two intake valves and at least two exhaust valves, by placing one intake valve and one exhaust valve in outer positions. CONSTITUTION:A pair of right and left intake valves 3 and a pair of right and left exhaust valves 5 are installed in the face of each other on a combustion chamber 21. One intake valve and one exhaust valve, which do not face each other, are provided with control cylinders 6, 7 so that the valves can be kept out of operation. When the intake valve 3 and the exhaust valve 5 are out of operation, the mixture flows in the combustion chamber 21 as shown by a line 23 in the drawing. For that reason, the mixture flow is prevented from being one-sided and a good swirl is caused in the combustion chamber 21. |
