The specification discloses a compound having the formula wherein A is or wherein R1 is hydrogen or formyl; R is or ; Y is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, trifluoromethyl, amino, nitro, hydroxy, (lower)alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or (lower)alkoxy of 1-4 carbon atoms; R2 is (lower)alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms and wherein A1 is methyl or -(CH2)nCOOH and n is one or two; or an easily hydrolyzed ester or nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. There is also disclosed a process for the preparation of the compound, an easily hydrolyzed ester or nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The compound according to the present invention is effective in the treatment of bacterial infections in man. |
