PURPOSE:To obtain an image having a good contrast by varying the width of a heating electrode, in the center part and the end side part. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 1 is enclosed between plates 2, 3, and many pieces of heating electrodes 4 which have been arranged in parallel, and image write electrodes 5 which have been arranged alternately so as to be orthogonal to said electrodes are provided on the inside surface of the plates. A width dimension of the electrode 4 is narrow in width in the enter part and varied to wide width as it reaches the peripheral part, so as to correspond to a temperature distribution which is distributed concentrically extending over the whole panel surface. A voltage which is applied to the electrode 4 is constant, therefore, Joule heat by a resistance is different, depending on whether the width is large or small, and the generated heat is lower in the center part than in the peripheral part. A temperature of the liquid crystal layer 1 is determined by adding the heat by an illuminating lamp and the heat generated in the electrode 4, both of them are complementary, and at the time of heating of image write, a temperature of the whole surface of the panel can be made uniform, therefore, an image having a good contrast can be obtained. |
