PURPOSE:To obtain an air cell, which has an excellent discharge performance and a high preservation performance, by using an air electrode made by integrating together an oxygen-reducing porous member located on the electrolyte side and a high water- repellent porous member located on the opposite side to the electrolyte side, with a current collecting body interposed between them. CONSTITUTION:10pts.wt. of Water-repellent pulverized Teflon powder and 50pts.wt. of a highly-viscous kerosene residue, which is obtained after manufacturing kerosene by fractionating crude oil, are mixed into 40pts.wt. active carbon containing an oxygen reducing matter, and the mixture is formed into a sheet-like shape so as to make an oxygen reducing body 12. A sheet-like water-repellent body 13 with a thickness of about 0.2-0.3mm. consists of 50pts.wt. pulverized Teflon powder with a grain diameter of several microns and 50pts.wt. the kerosene residue. The oxygen reducing body 12 and the water-repellent body 13 are joined togethet with pressure, with a current collecting body 4 made of nickel net interposed between them. After that, the joined body is heated to 240-290 deg.C, and the kerosene residue contained in the bodies 12 and 13 is eluted with solution or vapor of trichloroethylene. By the means mentioned above, the oxygen reducing body 12 and the water-repellent body 13, respectively, are made to have a porosity of 10-70% and 20-85%. |
