The compound pivaloxymethyl 2-propylpentanoate of the formula (I): <IMAGE> is described. The preparation process comprises reacting 2-propyl-pentanoic acid with chloromethyl pivalate and isolating the pivaloxymethyl 2-propyl-pentanoate from the reaction mixture. Pharmaceutical compositions containing an effective quantity of the compound (I) are described.
