PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a character reader and to increase the reading speed, by performing an OR arithmetic process with each digital signal train having the significance and read derectly through a signal transmitting circuit for the corresponding bits in said signal train and then comparing the arithmetic result with the stored character dot pattern data. CONSTITUTION:A reader 1 reads with scanning the dot pattern characters of a medium 2 to be read, and the read series signals are digitized by a signal converting circuit 4. Each of digital signal trains produced at the circuit 4 is stored at a signal transter circuit 7 within a scanning period and then transferred to a processor 11. At the same time, the character dot pattern is stored in a dictionary storage device 12 and then read out to the processor 11. Then an OR arithmetic process is carried out through the processor for the corresponding bits in the significant digital signal train which is read directly out of the circuit 7. This arithmetic result is compared with the character dot pattern data of the device 12. Thus the reading is accelerated for the dot pattern characters. |
