PURPOSE:To obtain large-sized display without decreasing a duty ratio by providing electrodes of at least one of an upper and a lower electrode substrate on the opposite surface to a surface which comes in contact with liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A liquid-crystal material 9 surrounded with an upper substrate 1 and a lower substrate 2, and a spacer 3 is controlled in accordance with the difference in potential between an upper electrode 4 and lower electrodes 5 provided on the opposite surface to a surface of the lower substrate 2 which comes into contact with the liquid-crystal material 9. Connections with respective segments are made directly by connecting terminals 6 provided to a connection substrate 8. In this case, the connecting terminals 6 are long enough to prevent an influence of the voltage between lead lines 7 wired on the connection substrate 8 and the upper electrode 4 upon the liquid-crystal material 9. Consequently, the lead lines 7 are wired freely on the connection substrate 8 without being limited by the lower electrodes 5 for display. The lower electrode segments 5 are split, but connected to the terminals on the connection substrate 8 easily. |
