PURPOSE:To connect optical fibers on a job site by passing bisected parallel beams of monochromatic light through a pair of optical fibers for axial alignment and 1/4 and 3/4 wavelength plates, converting the change in the phases thereof to intensity distributions and moving one of the optical fibers while observing phase contrast. CONSTITUTION:Monochromatic light 21 from a laser light source 20 is made into a quasi-plane wave 23 by a luminous flux expander 22 and is bisected with a half mirror 23. One of the bisected beams of light passes one 26 of optical fibers 26, 27 and is converted to bright phase contrast 30 by a 1/4 wavelength plate 28. The other beam of light is reflected by a total reflecting mirror 25 and is converted to dark phase contrast 21 by passing through the optical fiber 27, and a 3/4 wavelength plate 29. Both luminous fluxes thereof are added by means of a collimator lens 32, a total reflecting mirror 35 and a half mirror 34, by which a distribution 36 in intensity is given thereto. The operator moves one of the optical fibers so as to decrease the amplitude of the phase contrast on a TV while observing said contrast, thereby connecting the fibers on a job site. |
