1522620 Hollow inorganic particles (foam) polymer blends FILLITE (RUNCORN) Ltd 14 Nov 1975 [5 Dec 1974] 52574/74 Heading C3C A structural foam extrusion or injection moulding material comprises a thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer mixed with an inorganic filler in the form of hollow particles, e.g. of spherical shape and of aluminium silicate, and with a blowing agent. The material may be used by mixing the above polymer and particles and extruding or injection moulding the mixture with the addition of a blowing agent to form a structural foam. In the examples mixtures were made from (1) polypropylene, polystyrene, polyacetal or, nylon, (2) hollow particles of aluminium silicate having 46-68% by wt. SiO2, 20-38% Al2O3 and the remainder being alkalis in the form NaO2 and K2O, and Fe2O3, and (3) a chemical blowing agent or using nitrogen as a blowing agent. |
