PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance by converting sterols or its dehydrogenated derivative at the A-ring using microorganisms belonging to Pseudonocardia genus. CONSTITUTION:Microorganisms belonging to Pseudonocardia genus and capable of accumulating androstane compounds, e.g. Pseudonocardia methanolignica var. LM-145, Pseudonocardia methanolignica var. LM-1258, etc. are cultured in a nutrient medium containing carbon sources such as n-paraffin, ethanol, etc., nitrogen sources such as yeast extract, meat extract, etc. After the growth of the microbial cells, the culturing is continued by adding sterols such as cholesterol, campesterol, etc., or its 4-en-3-one or 1,4-dien-3-one derivative to the medium, under aerobic conditions. The objective androstane compound can be separated from the cultivation liquid by conventional method. |
