The boiler which burns granulated solid fuel has a hopper (1) to receive the fuel. The flow out of the hopper is regulated by a sliding guide (3) and a fixed guide (4). A reciprocating piston (6) driven by an electric motor pushes the fuel into the boiler fire box which is supplied with a flow of air. The piston (6) has projecting fingers which stir up the embers as the fuel is being pushed into the fire box. At the same time the clinker is pushed over the far edge of the fire box to make room for fresh fuel.
