Apparatus for cleaning the sealing surfaces of coke oven doors or door frames comprises a supporting frame equipped with reciprocating cleaning tools 3 which are resiliently urged against sealing surfaces 6, each cleaning tool having a pair of scrapers 4, 5 the leading one of which is operative and engages the sealing surface, the trailing scraper being withdrawn from contact with the surface but engaging it on the return stroke. The scrapers 4, 5 are fast with plates 10 which are connected by a pivot pin 11 to a rod 12 which is urged towards the surface 6 by a spring 16. Rod 12 is axially slidably mounted in a crosshead 20 which is pivotally connected to links 21, 22 which are pivoted to the supporting frame. Link 21 is oscillated by a reversible motor and causes reciprocation of the crosshead 20 and scrapers 4, 5. The drag on the leading scraper rocks the plates 10 about the pivot pin 11 to raise the trailing scraper out of contact with the surface 6 so as to prevent re-deposition of matter thereon. Relatively resilient parts 7, 8 of the scrapers 4, 5 engage an edge 9 of the sealing surface. |
