PURPOSE:The titled binder fiber that is a conjugated fiber consisting of the core component of a high softening point and the sheath component of a low softening point in which the melt viscosity of the sheath component at a temperature between the softening points of both components has a specific relationship with the fineness of the conjugated fiber, thus showing good adhesion and giving bat wool with high bulkiness and flexible touch. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyester with a softening point of higher than 240 deg.C is used as a core component and (B) another polyester of 100-150 deg.C softening point as a sheath component to effect conjugate spinning to produce the objective conjugated fiber in which the relationship between the melt viscosity (M) in poise of the sheath polyester at 170 deg.C, the fineness of the conjugated fiber (D) in denier and the fineness of the core fiber (d) in denier satisfies equations Iand II. The resultant fiber preferably has a heat shrinkage of less than 60% at 170 deg.C. |
