To facilitate transportion of a solidified cast shape (2) by means of a carrying device (4) with a conveying hook or conveying eye (7), a carrying device (4) with a helical portion (5) is fixed by means of this portion (5) in the solidifying melt and, possibly after repeated transportation of the cast shape (2), is unscrewed from the latter. The helical portion (5) of the carrying device (4) should taper in the direction away from the conveying hook and/or conveying eye (7) and have a long and deep round thread. Between the helical portion (5) and the conveying hook or conveying eye (7), the carrying device (4) can furthermore have a plate (6) of larger diameter than the maximum diameter of the helical portion (5). The method can be applied with advantage particularly to the removal and insertion of a length of cast bar (dummy bar) into a continuous casting apparatus. <IMAGE>
