[Also in Division C3] A ball-holder for a ball-point pen is moulded from nylon containing an inorganic bulking agent and has on at least one surface a layer produced by an addition or cross-linking reaction between the nylon and one or more improving agents selected from an epoxy compound, an imine compound, an isocyanate compound, a ketene or a carbodiimide. The rigidity and the friction-resisting property of the moulding is thereby increased and the water absorbing-property improved. The nylon moulding may be treated with a liquid, solution or vapour of the improving agent. The nylon used is defined as a thermoplastic polyamide resin. The nylon may include a bulking agent such as glass fibre or metal powder which may be surface treated by a silane or a borane to improve the bonding between the bulking agent and the nylon. Examples of the improving agents, solvents for the improving agents, and catalysts for the reaction are given.</p> |
