[Also in Division C3] Substrates of metal, glass and cement which are subsequently jointed by means of silicone, rubbers are first primed with a surface treating composition comprising a polycondensate of average general formula: in which R is an alkyl radical and R' an alkyl, aryl or vinyl radical, n=2-30 and m is less than half of n, dissolved in an alcohol corresponding to the alkoxy groups in the molecule or in polar solvents or in a mixture of the alcohol and a polar solvent. The solvent may be miscible with water and the concentration of the polycondensate may be 20-100% by wt. of the solvent. The composition may be acidified, e.g. with HC1, to a pH of at least 1. An example relates to a 50% solution of a methylmethoxysiloxane in methanol adjusted to a pH of 3 with HC1. |
