In a compound rest on a copying device for flat keys according to an available master key, which copying device consists of a rotating shaft mounted upright on a frame and having a cutting tool, of a feeler pin arranged parallel to the latter, and of two holders arranged next to one another below the cutting tool and the feeler pin, carried by the compound rest and intended for the releasable clamping of the master key and key blank directed parallel thereto, the distance of the holders from one another corresponding to the distance of the cutting tool from the feeler pin, and the top and bottom slide of the compound rest being freely movable, of which the bottom slide is arranged so as to be adjustable parallel to the longitudinal extent of the clamped keys and the top slide is arranged so as to be adjustable transversely thereto, in order to obtain an applied pressure or feed force by means of spring elements in the event that flat keys with notches are to be copied, it is proposed that there be arranged in the bottom slide (7) an actuator by means of which the top slide (8) can be displaced along its guides in both directions with one compression-spring element each in between. <IMAGE>
