A slipcase, serving as a protective cover for cassettes, books and the like, has an insertion and removal opening on a longitudinal end side. Such a slipcase is to be universally usable in each case both for prerecorded cassettes and for blank cassettes and the like, as well as for books of the same format but having different titles. For this purpose, according to the invention, the slipcase has a holder for at least one identification card. The uniform slipcases can thus be identified as required, namely in the case of prerecorded cassettes or for the different book titles, so that the contents are already clearly recognisable on the slipcase, even from the outside. At least one film strip which preferably extends over a flat side of the slipcase serves as the holder. The identification card can then be inserted as required between the flat side of the slipcase and the film strip. The film strip expediently consists of transparent material.
