The invention relates to a device for chimneys. In this case, the outgoing smoke gases are to be made thermically useable. On the other hand, cold air is to be prevented from penetrating into the outgoing smoke gas duct and bringing about a cooling. The fire risk in the chimney is also to be reduced. To this end, use is made of a flap controlled by a thermostat, which flap is accommodated in the inside of the chimney and which can be closed and opened, the control pulses being given by the thermostat and in particular in such a manner that - before the burner starts - the flap is opened and that the flap only closes when the burner is stopped. <IMAGE>
