The invention proposes a friction disc clutch/brake combination, preferably for intermittently driven presses, shears or the like, with a clutch unit and a brake unit, in which, to satisfy safety requirements, the reciprocal actuation of the clutch and brake unit is effected by two systems completely identical in their action and connected in parallel. One system comprises a central pressure disc (6) which is arranged in axially displaceable fashion between the clutch and the brake unit and presses the clutch discs (2) and the brake discs (4) alternately against the associated outer pressure discs (10, 12). The second system comprises these same outer pressure discs (10, 12), which are connected firmly to one another mechanically and are likewise arranged in axially displaceable fashion, allowing the clutch discs and the brake discs to be pressed alternately against the intermediate pressure disc. In order to engage the clutch or the brake, all that is required is thus a corresponding movement of these two systems relative to one another, it being irrelevant in principle whether this movement is carried out by one system or the other or by both systems, for which reason functioning is fully maintained if one system fails. <IMAGE>
