Polyalkylenes which contain ester groups, and are useful as pour- point depressants for fuel oils, are prepared by reacting a halogenated polyalkylene with a salt of a carboxylic acid to at least partially replace the halogen with the carboxylic acid residue. In Examples, chlorinated polyethylene is reacted with potassium or sodium acetate or with the sodium salt of propionic, actanoic, lauric, stearic or oleic acid. Some dehydro halogenation may also take place to form double bonds. |
