The invention relates to a piezoelectric actuating element which has a high performance (high power capability) and in the case of which the drive is effected by a direct signal from the computer, and in which case a digital signal results in a specific number of voltage sources having a low internal impedance being alternatively connected in series by means of switches, and the circuit being closed. An actuating element is thus created which can be driven directly digitally at a high frequency.
