<p>A fluidized bed heat exchanger is disclosed in which a perforated plate (24) is disposed within a housing (10) for supporting a bed (22) of particulate material. Air is passed through the plate (24) to fluidize the particulate material and means are provided for feeding the bed (22) with additional particulate material. According to the invention, the feeding means (40, 42, 70, 72) is adapted to deliver a mixture of air and said additional particulate material into the bed (22) in a manner to induce diffusion and circulation of the material within the bed (22). The mixture is typically carried to a region in the heart of the bed (22) and may be deflected laterally to induce said diffusion and circulation, by for example the use of deflectors (52, 72a, 72b) and/or an auxiliary source (54, 56) of air.</p> |
