Support 12 (Fig. 2) includes cross-bars having suction caps and adjustable straps 15 to engage with a vehicle body. Actuation means 50 (Fig. 4) include first and second guide frames 52, 53 to which pivot rods 56, 57 are attached respectively to permit the container to move between an upstanding and horizontal position (Fig. 2). Actuation means 50 also include gear racks 58, an electric motor 59, rack engaging sprockets 60, and a shaft 65 to transfer torque to the sprockets, thus advancing the sprockets along the stationary racks. Guide bushings 62 and guide surfaces maintain engagement between the sprockets and racks. The copy message is wound by an electric motor 38 around a first roller 33 and a second roller 34. Coil spring 46, secured to a motor drive shaft 47 and a third drive shaft 44, tensions the web. A face plate 26 has a first transparent area 27, Fig. 1 (not shown), to permit viewing of the message from the rear of the vehicle, a second transparent area (28) for lamps 76, 79, and an opaque area 32. Light reflective means 67 includes a light diffuse reflecting area 69 and reflex reflector areas 68. An illuminated control panel, Fig. 5 (not shown), on which buttons are located, is used to control the position of the sign, the appropriate copy message and red traffic control lamp 97. A sign position switch (86) may be operated by a radio control. |
