NEW MATERIAL:An azulene derivative consisting of a compound shown by the formulaI(R<1> is H or lower alkyl; n is 2 or 3), its salt and its amide derivative. EXAMPLE:5-(7-Isopropyl-1-methylazulene-4-yl)-4-oxovaleric acid. USE:Having antiphlogistic and analgesic action, low acute toxicity, useful as an antiphlogistic and anodyne. PROCESS:Sodium guaiazulenide shown by the formula II is reacted with an acid anhydride shown by the formula III in the presence of a proper inert solvent such as dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, etc., to give a compound shown by the formula IV. The compound shown by the formula IV is treated with an organic inorganic base or amine in the absence of a solvent or in a proper inert solvent to give a compound, which is reacted with an alkyl halide shown by the formula V (X is halogen), to give a compound shown by the formulaI. |
