PURPOSE:To make the apparatus compact and to reduce the energy cost by adopting roll cooling in the primary cooling zone. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip heated in the heating zone 1 of a continuous annealing furnace and soaked in the soaking zone 2 enters the primary cooling zone 3', where it is cooled by contact with a group of rolls 9 for cooling. By this cooling method the strip can be cooled at a higher cooling rate than that of conventional gas jet cooling. Accordingly, the line length of the primary cooling zone can be reduced remarkably, the apparatus can be made compact, and most of electric power consumed by conventional blower cooling can be saved. |
